Description:
The thorax is composed of a bony cage of ribs and spine, as well as membranous sacs—the pleura—that surround the esophageal, pulmonary, and cardiovascular structures. Because of the thoracic confinements, thoracic disease causes an atypical change of typical structures as well as a more subtle change of the normal thoracic radiographic opacity, resulting in visualization of the architecture of the lungs. In this session, we discuss the impact of extrapulmonary thoracic pathology as well as pulmonary pathology on radiography.
