Description:

Pancreatitis is an important, potentially fatal, condition of dogs, that is not well understood. Common risk factors are listed; however, most cases are likely idiopathic. And while diagnostic strategies for canine pancreatitis have improved over the last two decades, successful treatments are still relatively limited. Aggressive supportive care is usually recommended to manage acute severe pancreatitis; dogs with chronic pancreatitis or mild to moderate acute pancreatitis may be managed at home. Diagnosis and management of acute and chronic canine pancreatitis will be reviewed, including novel, investigational treatments.
